Whether you are a home builder or a homeowner looking to do some kitchen renovations, the success of your project is determined by your happiness with the finished product. Anyone who has ever taken on a sizable kitchen renovation can tell you that from start to finish, every step of the project played a part in its success, and that the very best piece of advice they can give you is to not cut corners in your planning. Before you ever tear down a cabinet or chose a backsplash pattern, it is important that you map out every detail of your kitchen renovation so that you are not surprised by anything once you start the project.

Plan the layout of your kitchen space thoughtfully, being sure to take into account such things as the location of the dishwasher in relation to the storage of the dishes for easy unloading, the placement of electrical outlets, or creating enough space for walkways around an island. Consider the perfect height for counters. Be sure to design your space so that doors to kitchen appliances and cabinets can open freely. Consider using a lighter color palette in smaller kitchen spaces. Darker colors will make the space seem smaller. Keep your budget in mind during the entirety of your kitchen renovations. You might be surprised by how quickly little changes in a design can add up. Consider high quality cabinets and granite, marble, or quartz countertops for easy clean up and care. Do your research.

Granite countertops have practically become a staple in American kitchen design. Home builders and homeowners alike love the look and functionality of granite countertops. According to the National Association of Home Builders, granite countertops are going into roughly 64% of new American homes. In our new kitchen and bathroom construction projects in Pinehurst, NC we have had the most requests for granite countertops. They are low maintenance, highly durable and come in a wide variety of styles and colors. It is easy to see why granite countertops are in such high demand in new construction and in kitchen renovation projects around the country.

While granite countertops are easy to maintain, there are some tips for getting the most life out of them. For instance, if you haven’t already, you really should have your granite countertops sealed. At Fayetteville Granite, we will seal your countertops for you when we install them in your Pinehurst, NC home. Wipe down your granite countertops regularly with warm, soapy water so that dirt and grime do not collect on them. Use a mild soap to wash your granite countertops instead of a harsh cleaner, which can wear down the sealant on your granite countertop over time. Do not use bleach products. While granite countertops can withstand fairly high temperatures, you should not place hot pans or dishes directly on the stone. Same goes for cold pitchers or glasses that may have condensation on them. It is best to place a coaster or towel underneath them before placing them on your granite countertops. If you notice a stain on your granite countertops, you can use a mixture of baking soda and water left for several hours on the stain and it should remove it. Although granite countertops do not attract bacteria like countertops made of other materials do, you can use a 50/50 combination of water and rubbing alcohol to disinfect them.

The granite countertop experts at Fayetteville Granite are happy to serve the home builders and homeowners of Fayetteville, Pinehurst and surrounding areas of North Carolina. Hardwood flooring can completely change the look of any living space. With so many hardwood flooring options to choose from, you can create a space with a more rustic look or a more modern look depending on your style and just by switching to hardwood flooring. Because of its versatility and fairly low maintenance, replacing your current flooring and putting in hardwood flooring is almost always a great design idea.

Once your hardwood flooring is in place, you will want to maintain it in order to get the most life out of it. Because of winter weather conditions like snow and ice, caring for your hardwood flooring in the colder months of the year could present new challenges. Our team at Magnus Anderson wants to help protect your hardwood flooring investment, so here are a couple of tips to keep in mind.

Keep moisture off of your hardwood flooring. When water from snow and ice are tracked into your home and onto your hardwood flooring, wipe it up as soon as possible. When a spill happens, clean it up quickly. Do not allow liquid to sit on the floor for a long period of time.

You should consider placing a mat for wet winter shoes and clothes outside your doors and possibly inside your doors as well. Create a space in your entryway for all wet clothes and shoes to go, so that snow and ice are not dragged into your home.

Every once in awhile, North Carolina will see a winter snow and ice storm. Save your hardwood flooring from being scratched in the winter by sweeping or vacuuming up rock salt on a regular basis that may be tracked inside. Use a floor cleaner that is specifically made for your type of hardwood flooring.

Your hardwood flooring is made to last for many years to come. With a little maintenance, they will continue to look beautiful for a long time.
